Live & Unspoken — Vol. II: The Quieter Night

▶ Expected February 2027

The quieter nights. The ones where the room went still and the music went somewhere deeper. Mariann Voss, oboe, Passing Through. The Unspoken Tour's other half.

Some nights the room was loud and the music followed. Other nights something quieter took over. These are those nights — eight songs from the evenings when the audience leaned in rather than stood up, when the silence between the notes carried as much as the notes themselves.

Mariann Voss found the band near the end of the tour. She had been looking for a classical rehearsal room two floors up and taken the wrong stairwell. She stood in the doorway, listening. Then she took the oboe out of its case and joined in without asking. On this album’s version of Passing Through she's there from the first note — not a late arrival, but part of the song from the start. It is one of the most requested tracks in the catalogue.

All four songs associated with Martin — the guitar player who left before the recording sessions — appear here: Loneliest Man in the Room, Who Will Visit Now, Unspoken, and The Shortest Long Day. Mara takes lead vocal on two of them.

Track Listing

1 Three O'Clock and Wide Awake Lyrics & story

The opener for the quieter nights. Insomnia as an occasion rather than a problem.

Lyrics
2 Loneliest Man in the Room Lyrics & story

Mara on lead vocal. The song sounds different from a woman's mouth. It was supposed to.

Lyrics
3 Everything in Order Lyrics & story

The spoken setup that makes track 4 possible. Without this one, that one does not land the same way.

Lyrics
4 Who Will Visit Now Lyrics & story

Mara again. The most requested of the Martin songs in the live set.

Lyrics
5 The Grand Old Man Lyrics & story

With the long band introduction that became its own thing on the longer nights.

Lyrics
6 Passing Through feat. Mariann Voss Lyrics & story

Mariann Voss's live debut — her oboe is there from the first note. The spoken intro leads straight into it. The moment the tour became something else.

Lyrics
7 Unspoken Lyrics & story

Martin's song. Played quietly, every time.

Lyrics
8 The Shortest Long Day Lyrics & story

Thank You and Good Night. The last song of every quiet evening.
